There are 4 elements or “Avenues of Service” in Rotary: Community Service, Club Service, World Community Service, and Vocational Service. Rotary clubs and Rotarians strive to provide services in all of these areas.

Community Service

Community Service pertains to those activities which Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. It frequently involves assistance to youth, the aged, handicapped, and others who look to Rotary as a source for hope for a better life. The Fenton Rotary supports CCAN (The Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect) by providing funds for the remodeling and maintenance of their office in Flint. The Fenton Rotary supports the Fenton Freedom Festival on the 4th of July and has been instrumental in bringing the festivities back to town.  With improvements to Bush Park, the annual Senior Citizen picnic on Lake Fenton, and Christmas activities such as the Angel Tree program, the Fenton Rotary provides a broad spectrum of Community Service Activities.

Club Service

Club Service involves all of the activities necessary for Rotarians to perform to make their club functional sucessfully, such as meeting arrangements, preparing the weekly club bulletin, and fellowship activites for club members. This includes activities like a progressive dinner on Lake Fenton, several Christmas events, golf outings, and an occasional social at the Fenton Hotel. One of the hallmarks of Rotary is the club banner and the Fenton Rotary Club is proud to have the distinction of being the first Rotary club to have it’s banner flown in space by Shuttle Commander Lt. Col. Mike Bloomfield.  The banner and commemorative plaque were presented to Club President, Andy Gavulic at a special reception as part of the 2002 Fenton Freedom Festival.

World Community Service

World Community Service describes the many programs and activities which Rotarians undertake to advance goodwill, international understanding, and peace. World Community Service projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands. In recent years, the Fenton Rotary has provided rainwater collection systems for remote villages in the Guatemalan highlands, has replaced a water supply for an orphanage in Rwanda, provided funds for an orphanage in India, and contributed extensively to eliminate polio in the Third World.

Vocational Service

Vocational Service is the opportunity each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to other members of the cluband to the community-at-large. Fenton Rotarians are actively participating in organizations such as Junior Achievement, and provide several classroom instructors each year. In addition, the Fenton Rotary sends 6 local high school students to a weekend leadership program in London, Ontario.
